THE
CHALMETTE TERMINAL and
Industrial Park is located one mile downriver from the Arabi
Terminal (mile 89.5 AHP). Chalmette Terminal encompasses 216
acres of land with more than 1.8 million square feet of building
space, 100 acres of open land partially available for office
space leasing. Recently, several buildings have been redesigned
and rehabilitated for leasing to major clients. The site is fully
equipped with all necessary utilities including electricity,
gas, water, and sewerage. Almost any requirement for water and
power can be met. High pressure natural gas crosses the site. Port
Administrators are available to assist with development projects.

BRIEF
HISTORY OF CHALMETTE TERMINAL The Chalmette Terminal was
purchased by St. Bernard Port from Kaiser Aluminum in January 1989.
Since the acquisition, The St. Bernard Port has developed the property
into a thriving industrial park consisting of 50 businesses, employing
an excess of 1000 people.
FUTURE
EXPANSION Rehabilitation of several buildings are continuing
on a rehab or build to suit bases along with future construction
of additional warehouse space. Recently, the site was selected
by five new lessees thus increasing the total tenants to over 50
firms.
CHALMETTE
MID-STREAM VESSEL MOORING In July 2002 a mid-stream
mooring operation was put into service. This facility marked the
first time that cargo was handled on the Mississippi River via
Chalmette Terminal. The facility is currently leased to Associated
Terminals of St. Bernard. In 2007 the Port added an additional
set of mid-stream mooring buoys at the Chalmette Terminal doubling
its barge fleeting capacity.
Intermodal
Facilities: Both Arabi and Chalmette Terminals offer
intermodal facilities with access via truck, rail, and ship.
Intermodal
Trucking Facility: A sixty acre intermodal facility
is open and is leased by Boasso America. This facility will comprise
of a laydown area for liquid bulk tanks, office space, shop areas,
and a tank washing facility.
