ST. BERNARD PORT, HARBOR AND TERMINAL DISTRICT APPOINTS NEW BOARD MEMBER

 ST. BERNARD PARISH, JULY 11, 2023 -The St. Bernard Port, Harbor and Terminal District held its regular Board of Commissioners meeting. This time, the meeting included the appointment of Ronald Alonzo Jr., who will serve as the Secretary. District Attorney Perry M. Nicosia administered the oath of office to Mr. Alonzo in a brief ceremony. The meeting also voted into position Walter Cure IV as President, Larry M. Aisola, Jr. as Vice President, and Rachel L. Nunez as Treasurer. Alonzo previously worked for the St. Bernard Parish Government as the Chief Administrative Officer for over 7 years. In total, he has over 34 years of government experience, and was a supervisor with the St. Bernard Parish School Board. In that position, he was involved in the rebuilding of the school system after Hurricane Katrina.

Drew Heaphy spoke about Mr. Alonzo’s arrival: “The experience Mr. Alonzo has gained with the parish government will be a great asset to the port.” Mr. Alonzo also had some words to say regarding his new position: I’m humbled and honored to be appointed by our Governor and Legislative Delegation to this most important position and economic driver in St. Bernard Parish. I look forward to working closely with the board and Port Director, Drew Heaphy as a fresh perspective on current and future Port projects.”

The St. Bernard Port, Harbor and Terminals Board of Commissions are unpaid public servants appointed by the governor. The meetings are held every second Tuesday of the month at 12 p.m. and are open to the public. Dates and times may have to be rescheduled due to the lack of quorum.
